From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
